Transportation Careers as a CDL

CDL jobs or any other jobs in transportation sector are for those who have the desire to be challenged to grow. CDL professionals have the responsibility for transporting finished goods from the plants and provide help in distributing them. Loading and movement of storage trailers also come as an integral part of the responsibility of transportation trucking jobs and transportation logistics jobs.

Qualifications needed for CDL jobs
  • A candidate who wants to start with entry level transportation jobs must have an A-Class commercial driver license with a clean motor vehicle record and a current DOT physical card.
  • Candidate should be able to safely maneuver vehicles, in tight quarters both in forward and backward directions.
  • Must be able to physically bend, stoop, sit and stand throughout the day as transportation engineering jobs cannot do without this.
  • Must be able to read and write the native language
  • Must have experience in tractor-trailer driving
  • Candidate must have the ability to perform hooking and unhooking operations
  • Must have professional communications skills
  • An ability to accurately check the fluid level for the vehicle to make sure that the vehicle runs properly
  • Candidate should have the capability to operate a semi-tractor/ trailer/truck/or utility van safely
  • Candidate must be physically fit to lift, push and pull heavy equipments, with an ability to load and unload carts from trailers and trucks.
Responsibilities of a CDL professional
  • To make deliveries to the customers as per the schedule as this is the first prerequisite of any transport job.
  • To cover routes for the days in which there are no drivers available
  • To verify that the seal number of the truck is valid before leaving for GCLS
  • Make sure that the carts loaded in the trailer reconcile with the amounts on delivery tickets and seal ticket period
  • Ensure that all the fuel tickets are inserted into the pouch of the forms given before departing for loading and unloading
  • Any one in a CDL job must complete and maintain an accurate and legible driver’s log.
  • At the end of each shift, candidate must make sure that the driver’s log has been reconciled and placed into the appropriate box in the load make up.
  • To load carts of the material into the load makeup department
  • To obtain required signature on the receipt of the deliveries as all the jobs in transportation work with strict delivery rules.
  • To make sure that all the completed and signed weigh/delivery tickets are returned to the plant and placed in the suitable box in the office
  • On a regular basis, check that the inside portion of the trailer is neat and clean
  • To operate the company owned vehicles in a safe and sensible manner
  • Unhook trailer at the loading and unloading docks and to hook the tractor to trailer with the material for the next scheduled delivery
  • To observe established safety guidelines at all the times
  • To report accidents or incidents to the supervisor immediately
  • To perform the duties those are assigned by the company manner in most responsible way.
Every organization has some minimum standards that are tailor made as per their working pattern. It can be said that all the transportation jobs require lot of discipline and courage.
