Private Transportation Jobs
All rich business people prefer drivers to take them around while they are busy on the phone or online working and coordinating business affairs. They do not want to have to deal with traffic, directions, or other hassles while driving. They also have helicopters and planes to take them where they need to be. It is all part of ruling the business world. Wealthy people provide the world with all kinds of private transportation jobs.
A transportation job does not indicate or immediately imply that you would be driving rich business men and women around. There are other jobs in transportation as well. For example, there are transportation manager jobs, where you will be supervising and managing other drivers and pilots. You may be responsible for hiring and firing, coordinating schedules, and connecting the driver or pilot to the right customer. Transport jobs have their pros and cons just like every other occupation.
In the film Sabrina, Sabrina’s father is the chauffer for the Larrabee family. He drives their limo wherever they need to go, or drives whichever car they prefer to travel in. This mostly consists of going to and from the office, but it also requires a vast knowledge of the city in case they need to go somewhere else. There are business meetings that might take place in other parts of the city, or one of the family members might need to be taken to the airport.
Sabrina talks to her father and expresses her admiration for his career choice. He chose his career so he would be allotted time to read all his favorite books. He loved reading and working as a limo driver allowed him all sorts of free time to read while he waited for one of the family members to need his driving skills. He would take them to the office and then wait for them until they needed a ride somewhere else. It is a very humble job that requires you to be at the service and mercy of those who hire you. If you are not there when they need you, they will look for someone else who will be more reliable. They cannot expect the impossible, but they do expect you to wait for them wherever they go. It does not pay too well, simply because it does not require a high level of schooling or skill. Driving is a very simple labor and only requires the most basic of driving skills as well as a knowledge of the city streets. It would be embarrassing to get lost on your way.
There is another transportation job shown in this film. They have private planes and jets and at one point use the private jet to take them to one of their vacation spots. It also realistically portrays some of the treatment of people in the public transportation industry by a so-called higher class. People who hire people to drive them around can often have a pompous attitude and in order to work in this industry, you will often have to deal with that type of attitude. It does not mean that you are lesser, and you should not feel that way, but it is possible the people who hire you will feel that way. If this would bother you a lot, then perhaps a different job would be better for you.

A few years ago, I spoke with a man (now retired) who had worked in a large corporation for forty years and in his last twenty years, he basically did nothing. He was paid very well and was more or less forgotten—doing very little of anything. He would show up at the office at 9:00 a.m. each day, try to look busy—do a task now and then—and then get in his car at 5:30 p.m. each evening and dr... |
