Job Overview
The Air Transportation Specialist conducts all activities associated with an Air Terminal Operations Center (ATOC) as well as Cargo support functions at Balad AB. They will function as Information Controllers, Capability Forecasters, Ramp Coordinators (RAMPCO), Load Planners, Hazardous materials preparers, Cargo acceptance, Cargo deliveries, Ramp Services activities, MHE operators and all other tasks included in the contract Performance Work Statement (PWS) for Aerial Port operations.
Roles and Responsibilities
Follows Aerial Port plans, policies, and techniques for cargo/passenger movements IAW the Performance Work Statement (PWS), AFI's, AMCI's and all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Performs all tasks related to the Air Terminal Operations Center (ATOC) such as but not limited to: Ramp Coordinator (RAMPCO), Information Control, Capability Forecasting and Data Records.
Performs all duties of Aircraft Services such as but not limited to: Ramp Services, Cargo Processing, Special Handling and Load Planning.
Operates and maintains an air freight distribution center
Maintains upkeep of all facilities and equipment required to support cargo warehousing, vehicle storage, highline docks and cargo yards IAW Site Policies and Directives.
Prepares Shippers Declaration for Dangerous Goods (SDDG) and Load Plans for Military airlift.
Builds, weighs, placards and marks all air cargo pallets, pallet trains and Rolling Stock (RSS) IAW aircraft configurations.
Maintains required records for all DoD and
contractor-controlled
aircraft handled by Sallyport.
Acts as focal point to Site Leadership for all mission information.
Receives and disseminates information mission requirements to all required agencies on Balad AB.
Works with Host Nations Customs to clear in/outbound shipments.
Ensures all Passengers and cargo departing Balad on DoD and
contractor-controlled
aircraft are properly manifested.
Conducts all aircraft loading and offloading on DoD and
contractor-controlled
aircraft.
Performs cargo documentation processing.
Uses and maintains upkeep on equipment such as 25K loaders; forklifts; tow tractor; baggage belt loader or any other special loading equipment required to support the mission.
Assists the aircrew by conducting aircraft reconfiguration support.
Ensures all classified or sensitive items are handled IAW the PWS.
Provides quality customer service to internal and external customers and resolves customer issues.
Provides support to other departments within Air Operations as required.
Performs all other related duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications & Certifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must be able to complete airfield driving course and maintain an active airfield driver license.
Knowledge of Military and Civilian transport aircraft types, capabilities, configuration and weight factors.
Must be able to maintain Hazardous Material Certifier and Load Planner qualifications.
Skills, Abilities And Years of Experience
Prior Military / AFCAP/LOGCAP experience in a Deployed Aerial Port (2T2, 2T0, 88N Etc.).
Must be able to read and understand airlift transportation directives and documentation.
Able to operate Aerial Port vehicles such as K-Loaders, forklifts, Belt Loaders, tugs and buses with standard and manual transmissions.
Able to lift 55 pounds or more.
Able to stand for extended periods of time and work in an austere environment (hot, cold and sandy).
