Oxbow Calcining LLC is currently looking to hire a Logistics Supervisor to join our team in Long Beach, California. The logistics department manages the transportation of material from petroleum refineries and coal mines, by truck and by rail, to marine export terminals and calcining facilities. For material that is exported from The Port of Long Beach, the logistics department works with a contract stevedore to load that material to ocean going vessels.
Essential Job Duties:
Coordinate, monitor and manage truck and rail transportation of petcoke and coal by working with third-party motor carrier and rail service providers.
Board vessels in port to observe loading operation, monitor loading plan, and interact with vessel crew and contract stevedores to provide feedback when necessary to optimize loading efficiency and final stowage condition.
Administer and enforce the terms of Oxbow’s stevedoring contract by communicating service expectations prior to cargo operations, and conducting a post-operation review of services provided, resolving disputed charges, and approving final invoices for payment.
Create original documentation and facilitate the creation of documentation by internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to vessel loading plans, bills of lading, product quality certificates, vessel draft surveys, and final stowage conditions.
Monitor and manage product quality throughout the entire shipment lifecycle prior to export by reviewing sampling results and adjusting material blends to meet customer requirements.
Receive and respond to internal and external stakeholder requests regarding loading schedules, product quality, vessel characteristic requirements, port conditions, rail schedules and motor carrier performance.
Work with third-party vessel agents, surveyors, tug providers, and stevedores to ensure appropriate measures are taken, and optimal decisions are made around tide and draft conditions, and restrictions regarding stevedoring equipment, stevedoring personnel, and berth availability.
Take all necessary actions to ensure that the work product of Oxbow’s stevedores, contractors and third-party service providers meet the requirements established in each of our facility leases, and within Tariff Number 4 as published by the Port of Long Beach.
Uphold Oxbow’s environmental covenants in all activities related to the handling of material and the operation of equipment by company employees, contractors, and third-party service providers.
Work with internal and external vessel chartering services to ensure that nominated vessels meet customer requirements, and all relevant local conditions and restrictions are appropriately considered.

Education, Experience and Credentials
High School equivalency required
Associate, Undergraduate or Graduate degree preferred
Maritime training and experience related to vessel operations preferred
Logistics training and experience related to cargo operations preferred
Possession of, or ability to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) required
Possession of, or ability to obtain a California Driver License required
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, company email and similar office related software programs
Physical and Other Requirements:
Sit or stand for extended amount of time in front of a computer
Climb steep inclines and staircases, work at heights, enter enclosed underground spaces, climb gangways to board vessels, and wear personal protective equipment as necessary.
Frequent rotation to weekend, night, and holiday work to support a 24-hour/7-day operation
Must be able to travel as needed
Lift, carry, or otherwise move and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds
Drive to various local and regional locations
Walk to various work locations throughout the terminal, and/or stand at those locations for extended periods to supervise the operation
Ability to communicate or exchange ideas by means of verbal or written word to impart information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed instructions to other workers
