Job Description:
General Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate and perform all department radio and communication functions on the assigned shift.
Receive incoming telephone calls from the college community and the general public; evaluate caller's needs and provide them with the requested assistance and/or information or make appropriate referral to other departmental staff or to other college offices.
Receive, transmit, and coordinate radio communication messages to and from departmental personnel and when necessary, other college services and local law enforcement agencies as appropriate.
Maintains the appropriate log of all activities during the assigned duty shift, ensuring their accuracy and correctness at shift's end.
Completes various forms associated with reports, safety and security discrepancies, work orders to Physical Plant, lost and found property, etc.
Make appropriate notification to other college offices, departments and staff members in the event of emergencies or incidents involving exceptional or unusual circumstances.
Maintains harmonious working relationship with his/her associates by courteous and considerate demeanor.
Coordinates his/her efforts with those of other members of his/her shift of other departmental personnel so that their teamwork may ensure continuity of purpose and optimum achievement of service program objectives.
Communicates to his/her supervisors all information that is pertinent to the achievement of common departmental objectives.
Responds punctually to all of his/her assignments, remaining subject to recall at any time in case of special needs or emergencies on a paid overtime basis.
Conducts himself/herself in accordance with ethical standards, both on duty and off.
Reports for duty physically fit, mentally alert, neatly and properly groomed and with the prescribed uniform and equipment, ready for instruction and information.
Complies with all college and departmental administrative policies.
Completes logs, reports and other prescribed forms as required.
Assist on duty officer in performing regular checks of campus call boxes and putting in work orders as needed.
Make new and replacement identification cards for students, faculty, staff, and DBRC members as needed.
Issue and maintain control of ID check in system for campus vendors and contractors.
Learn the electronic card access system and be able to troubleshoot and resolve any issues. Be able to initiate a campus lockdown in the event of an emergency.
Monitor all campus surveillance equipment and immediately notify officers on duty of any threats to the college community.
Monitor the See Something Send Something app; send out pulse notifications as needed, notify officer on duty of any incoming notifications.
Learn the Rydin Parking system and issue parking permits/temporary parking permit as needed.
Learn Pioneer Alert system and be able to issue emergency notifications to the campus community as directed by the officer on duty.
Check firearms in and out in accordance with **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Policy.
Monitor public social media feeds for any threats to the college community, notify officer on duty of any immediate concerns.
Obtain and maintain APCO (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials) certification.
Performs other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor or Chief.
Requirements:
Qualifications
Associates degree recommended. High School Diploma required.
Prior emergency dispatching experience preferred. APCO (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials) certification preferred.
Excellent verbal and written skills and knowledge of appropriate telephone protocol and procedure.
Ability to perform critical tasks without direct supervision; good problem-solving skills and ability to evaluate emergency situations and respond accordingly under pressure.
Ability to work well with all department colleagues and with members of a diverse academic community.
Must be able to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
