We have been making a difference in the lives of the individuals, families, and communities we serve for over 40 years. rnrn rnrnThe Air Quality Advocate (AQA) is a position for an experienced professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment working with community organizers, neighborhood residents and allied organizations to influence government policies to achieve environmental justice through air quality improvement. The AQA works to advance policies and projects that reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from transportation and stationary sources, focusing on heavy-duty freight and industrial sources. The AQA focuses on low-income communities of color where these sources are disproportionately located and works with community leaders to identify key issues and community-driven solutions. The AQA conducts policy advocacy to influence local governments and state regulatory and legislative bodies to reduce impacts in low-income communities of color in the San Diego/Tijuana region.rnrn rnrnThe AQA designs and implements advocacy campaigns to promote a policy agenda developed in conjunction with community residents. The AQA represents EHC with local, regional, and state regulatory bodies related to transportation justice, goods movement, air pollution, climate change, and public health. The AQA represents EHC members’ interests before decision-making authorities and ally groups to change or enforce public policies.rnrn rnrnPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:rnrn rnrnrntMonitor rulemaking at the local, regional, and state level to ensure compliance and advancement of environmental justice, including the San Diego Air Pollution Control District, the California Air Resources Board, the Port of San Diego and other governmental entities as requiredrntConduct policy advocacy and represent EHC positions to promote air pollution reduction and air quality through legislative and regulatory mechanisms at the local, regional, and state levelsrntUnderstand local, regional, and state government systems and laws, and effectively monitor and advocate with those entities;rntDevelop written analyses, position papers, issue briefs and correspondence;rntAnalyze air pollution information and monitoring data from government and other entities Provide expertise on the health impacts of air pollution Develop community-friendly educational materials and training on air quality, pollution sources and health impacts of air pollution. Compile information to advance environmental justice policy change Work with community residents, local government agencies, and decision-makers to reduce air pollution Conduct effective networking and ally development with individuals, groups, organizations, and governmental entities in the San Diego region and throughout California; Work with EHC community organizing efforts to ensure community participation; Work with EHC team members to develop strategic plans for key projects and activities; Participate in statewide environmental justice networks to secure state air pollution policy.
