Kodiak Support Services (KSS) is seeking a Heavy Truck /Refuse Driver
at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Kodiak, Alaska. For collection services in order to ensure that garbage is transported and disposed of in an appropriate manner
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
Operate municipal trucks in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.
Main Activities:
1) Operate all equipment in a safe and effective way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.Perform daily safety and maintenance checksClean trucks as scheduled and/or requiredEnsure trucks and equipment are safely and securely storedAdvise the Transportation Supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairsParticipate in routine maintenancePractice workplace safety
2) Collect garbage from buildings, businesses and other facilities as per schedule to ensure garbage is removed, transported and disposed of according to set policies and procedures
Main Activities:
Collect garbage from residential buildings, businesses and other facilitiesMaintain daily records of pick-upsPick up refuse and recycle bins in other areas as requiredDispose of garbage and recycle materials according to set policies and procedures
NON - ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements :
Required (Minimum) Qualifications:
High School Completion or GED Equivalent.
Must be able to communicate clearly (oral and written) in the English Language.
Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License minimum class A with no prior DUI
The successful candidate will be required to join the Teamster Union.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (minimum qualifications):
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in truck and equipment safety, garbage truck operationsGarbage collection and disposal procedures, record keeping and scheduling procedures, cleaning of equipment standards and procedures, skilled in operation of duel-axel trucks
Preferred:
Previous experience in the field
CDL with Hazardous endorsement
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The Truck Driver has a physically strenuous and demanding job. He/she will be lifting, pullinga minimum fifty pounds of weight and managing heavy equipment and objects. The Driver will have to work in all weather, and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold. As the Driver is handling potentially dangerous materials he/she must ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way to eliminate the possibility of contamination and infection of themselves or others. Is required at each stop to climb in and out of the vehicle and will be required to pass a pulmonary function test and be respirator certified..

Job is sometimes performed in a noisy and hot or cold environments and work with water. This position requires driving and working out of doors and in some instances in extremes of weather heat and possibly intermittent weather

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
As a condition of employment, complete a required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results. May be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance. For positions requiring use of a Company and/or Customer vehicle, must have a safe driving record within the past 36 months, as defined by Company policy.
