Hoffman Estates, Illinois-based Sears Holdings notified about 300 employees yesterday that their jobs were being eliminated, a company spokesperson said.

The positions are being cut at the company’s headquarters, as well as at offices in Troy, Michigan, and at a New York City design center. The job cuts came out of a corporate workforce of about 6,900.

The move by the parent of Sears and Kmart was the latest in a series of moves this week by American companies to slash employment to cope with the recession. On Thursday, Bon-Ton Stores said it plans to eliminate 1,150 corporate and store jobs.
