Shaw’s Supermarkets Laying Off 4 Percent of Associates

Shaw’s Supermarkets Inc. is laying off four percent of its store associates, the company announced Wednesday. Affected workers, based in stores in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, were notified Tuesday that their positions would be eliminated April 10.A spokeswoman for Shaw’s did not reveal the specific number of layoffs, but the Associated Press reports the company has approximately 25,000 employees, though that includes workers in corporate offices and distribution centers who are not affected.
Shaw’s has more than 210 store locations throughout New England, according to its Web site.
