Mednocino County to Reduce 100 Jobs or Cutback Hours

The Mendocino County Board of Supervisors approved a budget measure on Monday to either reduce 100 county jobs, or have unions agree to workplace concessions that would save between $5 to $7 million.The California counties current budget deficit is $7.6 million over the next two fiscal years. Carmel Angelo, county executive officer, warned that this number could increase based on what California does to deal with its $20 billion deficit.
The concession the board has in mind is to have employees agree to mandatory time off. If they agree to reducing work hours equivalent to 10% of their wages, the county would save $4.9 million. If they move to a 32-hour work week, the county would make up 94% of their budget shortfall.
