Shipping Manager Jobs description
Shipping managers are responsible for the planning and execution of shipping operations within the harbor and for liaising with commercial and operations departments to ensure efficient shipping movements and management. A shipping manager oversees safety, vessel stability, barge control, deck and hull load distributions, draft and trim adjustments, and the monitoring of the weather. A shipping manager supervises navigation, port entries and exits, the running and retrieving of anchors, towing and steaming, material/personnel transfers, and crane operations. A shipping manager has to supervise the maintenance of safety equipment, the operation of thrusters, preventive maintenance programs, pollution control, rig bulk systems, bilge alarm systems, and cathode protection systems. A shipping manager has to monitor the structural integrity of the ship and supervise systematic inspections, overseeing the maintenance of medical, communications, sanitation, food preparation, and handling and storage facilities.A shipping manager should have a bachelor's or master's degree and a Class 1 Master Mariner certificate. A solid candidate will have port experience of five years or more; command and management experience is preferred. A shipping manager must have strong administration and writing skills. Knowledge of the port marine safety code is highly desirable.
