Within Shell Chemicals and Products the Contract Manager Land Logistics (Rail and Storage) is responsible for efficient procurement of required logistics services from storage providers and rail transport companies in line with Shell Chemicals and Products business requirements.
In this role you are working on the existing chemical product portfolio, as well on the circular plastics projects, sustainability service offering and bio based chemical solutions. In this changing world the contract manager will be the logistics expert and acquire the right services for Shell Chemicals business.
What’s the role?
You sit within the Logistics Team with Chemicals and Products North West Europe, responsible for the full logistical footprint of Shell Chemicals. This is a key role to ensure the logistics needs for our Chemicals business are met with by partnering with LSPs to curate a safe, reliable, robust, and competitive supply chain. Worthy to highlight that the European logistics market (road/rail transportation, storage, freight forwarding, drumming) are of a multi-billion turn-over. These are very mature markets with LSP’s servicing a wide variety of businesses, including the Chemicals liquid business. This requires a prudent and mature logistics Contract Manager who can ensure that Chemicals specific logistics needs are correctly executed. Further you as Contract Manager need to develop and maintain effective relationship networks in that market to ensure latest developments and its impact are well understood by Shell.
You procure logistics services and manage the performance of contracted Logistics Service Providers in cooperation with relevant stakeholders. You are responsible to ensure that the Shell Chemicals logistics requirements are translated into the appropriate logistics contracts for services provided by LSP’s and you will lead contract negotiations with LSP’s.
In addition, you will manage term contracts by developing contract strategy papers and effective Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement. This role also needs to ensure an effective contract management process to deliver the maximum value of the contract in place and provide assurance for compliance against all contractual agreed terms, HSSE standards and minimum requirements with the LSPs. This includes stretching the HSSE performance to what good looks like and constantly evolve into a generative HSSE standards and performance.
As appointed Contract Holder, it is key to understand the responsibilities under the Chemicals management system and act accordingly plus deliver the LSP engagement plan and work with contractors to meet the HSSE and Operational performance KPI's. We are also looking for someone who will bring contractor management to the next level in terms of creating value for the business and reduce transactional costs in the relationship with the contractors. Furthermore, in the spirit of customer centricity, you need to apply a mindset of continuous improvement to structurally solve operational problems and initiate improvements, including accountable to resolve complaints and claims in relation to the Logistics Service Providers and in-time payment to LSP’s.
What we need from you?
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferably in a logistics or commercial discipline
Experience in a logistics procurement role or a commercial role and relevant background in rail transport and/or storage operations
Commercial acumen and ability to translate technical and logistics requirements into operational and contractual agreements is a key requirement
Healthy commercial and good relationship with logistics service providers (LSP) and adopt a continuous improvement focus
Learner mindset
Good communication skills, fluency in English
Good analytical skills
Problem solving abilities to improve our business daily
