Job Description:
What’s the role?
This position is responsible manage the overall logistics and contracts management function within the lubes business in South Africa: warehousing and transportation for additives, bulk and packed lubricants and grease truck activities, from custom clearance, forwarding, receipt of material into plant warehouses, storage and warehouse management, product picking and dispatching, management of secondary depots, delivery to secondary depots and to customers, road safety and fleet management.
Responsible for meeting agreed of delivery promise safely, at lowest distribution cost, least working capital and high standard of performance in logistics and warehouse operations through implementation of Ultimate Potential (UP) program and global/regional logistics processes.
He or she is a critical HSSE and SGBP Critical leader and contract holder and manager of strategic, tactical and operational contracts.
Key Accountabilities:
Accountable for formal contract management for logistics, warehouse operation, custom clearance and forward, grease truck fleet, regular performance reviews including contract reviews, service, KPIs, cost and HSSE indicators monitoring and intervention. 100% adherence to CMCP process. Contract holder for strategic, tactical and operational contracts.
Ensure logistics, warehouse operation, custom clearance and forward, grease truck fleet and DFOA operation adheres to HSSE &SP CF at all time.
Leads and has direct accountabilities for South Africa logistics and warehouse, grease truck, DFOA, consignment operations in meeting objectives for safety, environmental responsibility, customer focus, efficiency and effectiveness.
Accountable for all custom clearance and forwarding contract in SA, for all raw materials, imported finished products, base oil.
Budget holder for all 3rd party spend on logistics, warehouse and grease truck fleets for Mining operations.
Develop new logistics or warehouse business model enhances CVP and increases competitiveness of local offer. Leads implementation of such new business model, for example consignment offer through 3rd party.
Accountable for right-sizing of distribution/warehouse, DFOA locations, consignment network, grease truck fleet, implement any changes in line with UP program and global/regional logistics strategy and processes.
Responsible for developing and implementing key supplier development plans with support from the respective Procurement Category Manager
Where respective activities are in scope of the service provider, accountable for ensuring that Shell control framework, Quality Standards (LQS), HSSE requirements, RT guides, FLT standard, Warehousing and stock integrity are met, appropriate stock management applied at all time, such as FIFO. Stock loss/write off are kept at minimum at all time.
Lead the logistics S&OP supply capacity planning and work with service providers to ensure sufficient capacity is available as per forecasts.
Responsible for reviewing all OTIF information and acting on root cause analysis to identify and resolve key and ongoing problems.
Responsible for ensuring Delivery Promise is adhered to and reporting through the Ops Manager where issues need addressing.
Responsible for warehousing and stock management and control.
Responsible for primary and secondary distribution service and cost and HSSE performance including professional contract management, service levels and cost standards are met.
Ensure compliance to all standards, processes, tools and approaches.
Own and accountable for carry out all GSAP activities relates logistics and warehouse function, DFOA and consignment system update, such as but not limited to vendor master data, vendor contracts and standing purchase orders, regular tariff review and updates.
Responsible for implementing HSSE standards in local logistics organization - Develops, manages and motivates local logistics teams.
Works with Planning team and Sales to operationalize agreed delivery plans that meet customer demand at lowest possible cost, least working capital through resource planning and event management in the S&OP process.
Undertake monthly Performance and Financial Review with all contractors to identify cost drivers in operations and address operating issues, ensure contractors performs to Shell HSSE expectation at all time, consistently.
Supports E2E SC manager to develop new standards and policies that enhances CVP and increases competitiveness of local offer. Leads implementation of such new standards and policies.
Develops, coach, manages and motivates own team to ensure that the required competencies are in place to meet current and future business needs, championing a learning and CI culture in the logistics team. Maintaining highest employee engagement at all time.
Ensure all team members have required technical expertise to carry out their role, and ensure suitable succession plans are in place.
Works with the wider team to implement cross functional improvement initiatives that cover integrated lubricants organization.
Actively pursue best in class initiatives and participate in global networks and benchmarking activities related to Logistics operations.

The ideal candidate is expected to have the following attributes: Authentic leadership capabilities, ability to engage with senior leaders and Stakeholders internally and externally; ability to coach and develop team. Highly commercial mindset with understanding of the Value chain and Lubricants Business with track record of delivering strong results through influencing, offering competitive insights and strong relationships. Good interpersonal communication skills with strong personal ambition to grow and develop the business, succeed in the marketplace. Ability to drive change and implement sustainably business processes and tools Leadership skills – demonstrated significant initiative, tenacity, and leadership in prior job.
What we need from you?
Minimum 10-years supply chain management and operational experience with supervisory / team leadership experience.
Certified Supply Chain professional and/or any other Supply Chain Management certification is preferred but not a must
Must have a bachelor’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Industrial Engineering or alike.
Experience in Oil and Gas is preferred however Mining, FMCG and pharmaceutical will also suffice
Has a skill in Level Value Chain Management and E2E profitability.
Has a skill in Supply Chain Strategic planning and implementation.
Has a skill in Supply Chain Analysis, Integration and Optimization.
Has a skill in Compliance, Control Risk and Exposure Management.
Has a skill in Supply Chain Project Management.
Has experience and mastery in: Supply Chain Contracts, Negotiation, Transport Management and Customer Services.
Has a knowledge in: Supply Chain Product Quality Management and Asset Management and Maintenance.
