This position will have regular internal contact with the Purchasing Manager, Plant/Production Manager, Customer Service Manager, Shipping Coordinators & members of the leadership, quality and finance teams. SCOPE/OVERVIEW: The Transportation Specialist will work with internal and external business partners to determine the most effective method of transportation for both inbound and outbound shipments. This position will connect purchasing, customer service, shipping and receiving to achieve common goals. Provide collaborative support to other internal departments on quality, receiving, inventory accuracy with shipping best practices. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates all transportation requirements of Customer Service department to meet customer delivery requirements; and determines the best method of shipment and arranges shipping Conducts data entry in JD Edwards, Sensient TMS and specific customer freight management programs related to lead times, shipment dates and transportation methods Direct, coordinate and review work plan for assigned staff; assigns work activities Creates and communicates inbound / outbound traffic schedule to maximize staffing utilization Reviews and ensures accuracy of inbound / outbound documentation and procedures Reviews carrier invoicing for accuracy and approves freight billing for all inbound, outbound and internal movement of product Interact with customer service, shipping and receiving to address and resolve transportation and logistics issues timely Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods or utilization of existing resources Improve logistics efficiency by consolidating freight and leveraging Sensient TMS Establish or monitor specific supply chain-based performance measurement systems Execute distribution strategy to drive down costs of transportation, services and inventory Promote workplace safety in areas of responsibility Ensures safe and efficient running of department BACKGROUND REQUIRED: Education/Experience: High School Diploma, or recognized equivalent; Bachelor's Degree preferred 4 years of general transportation logistics, production management or inventory control Qualifications/Skills: Selecting, supervising, training and evaluating warehouse staff Experience with TMS, WMS and other SAAS / ERP Systems Excellent computer skills (Excel, Power Point, Word) Excellent numerical skills Excellent communication skills; both oral and written Preparing clear and concise reports Transportation -- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits. Complex Problem Solving -- Identifying complex problems, analyzing and recommending solutions. Judgment and Decision Making -- Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
