Summary:
The purpose of this position is to lead and direct a team of Transportation Safety Compliance and Training of Driving professionals and Maintenance Facility Safety Compliance and Training to achieve regulatory compliance and loss prevention as established with the Managing Director of Strategy aligned with Tyson company policies and core values.
Responsibilities include:
Develop and communicate executable solutions for transportation and maintenance safety compliance and loss prevention
Provide transportation safety and maintenance training and education
Monitor and communicate transportation and maintenance safety performance
Achieve budget and team metrics
Have and develop qualified and effective Team members in all positions
Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external customers
Description/Responsibilities
Provides litigation support for Legal Department by providing deposition and trial testimony as needed, assisting outside counsel and accident
reconstruction experts in investigations; and assisting internal and external legal counsel with discovery
Drives the execution projects for Fleet and Maintenance Facilities Safety by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance; accordingly, developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning.
Provides leadership for the operational business unit (BU) to improve overall safety performance of the fleet and maintenance facilities by analyzing individual performance, managing, and directing safety programs and policies.
Communication and application of programs, processes, and policies; and communicating safety strategies to transportation operations management.
Serves as a subject matter expert for various vehicle formats by understanding federal transportation regulations and translating them into executable action items; and providing direction to cross-functional teams and leadership on various vehicle formats and governmental agency requirements on specific vehicle formats.
Supports and improves Tyson Food’s public image by taking a leadership role at the state and national level in industry organizations (for example, National Private Truck Counsel, American Trucking Associations, Arkansas Trucking Association) participating in and assisting in collaborative safety events with state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Ensures compliance with governmental agency regulations (for example, OSHA, Department of Transportation & FMCSA) by leading teams responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory criteria, including federal, state, and local laws for drivers, and managers; participating in compliance reviews from regulatory agencies; maintaining industry leading compliance, safety, and accountability (CSA) metrics to ensure accurate reporting and best-in-class safety rating; overseeing teams who are developing and implementing training programs to ensure compliance; and analyzing safety compliance audits results to determine level of compliance and future strategy.
Develops and implements new safety strategies by monitoring regulatory changes; developing processes and policies to ensure compliance; evaluating programs and performance to achieve best-in-class safety performance; assisting with the testing of safety technology to evaluate return on investment (ROI) and viability of future implementation; communicating new safety programs to senior management; educating and soliciting feedback from operators concerning new compliance strategies; and developing safety communications regarding future policy changes.
Provides overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs; developing, communicating, building support for, and implementing business strategies, plans, and practices; analyzing costs and forecasts and incorporating them into business plans; determining and supporting resource requirements; evaluating operational processes; measuring outcomes to ensure desired results; identifying and capitalizing on improvement opportunities, and demonstrating adaptability and sponsoring continuous learning.
Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps; recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning; and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent.
Cultivates an environment where team members respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs and practices; developing consequences for violations or non-compliance; and supporting an Open-Door Policy.
Develops and leverages internal and external networks to maximize the achievement of business goals by engaging key stakeholders in the development, execution, and evaluation of appropriate business plans and initiatives; and supporting team members efforts.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field normally acquired through four years of college.
Experience: 10 plus years of Transportation experience.
Computer Skills: Requires standard computer skills.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Special Skills: Knowledge of OSHA regulations, Knowledge EPA environmental regulations state environmental regulations; Knowledge Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
Supervisory: Responsible for supervising a group of personnel who perform somewhat identical and related tasks or activities.
Travel: 10-12 domestic trips per year.
