Transportation Dispatcher Jobs
The main duty of a transportation dispatcher is to perform routine, recurring vehicle dispatch and recordkeeping duties. A transportation dispatcher receives, processes, plans, schedules, and assigns vehicles for approved vehicle requests. A transportation dispatcher performs office automation duties in producing/preparing a variety of documents pertaining to dispatching functions and also performs operator maintenance on all vehicles assigned to the section. A transportation dispatcher checks records/files in the automated systems on the status of vehicle requirements. A transportation dispatcher uses the advanced functions of word processing software to create, format, modify, edit, and print a variety of letters, reports, memos, and other documents.
A transportation dispatcher job requires at least one year of specialized experience involving the dispatching or scheduling of motor vehicles, trains, aircraft, or vessels used for the transportation of passengers, mail, equipment, or supplies. In addition, a transportation dispatcher should have skill in compiling and composing both quantitative and narrative reports for a variety of agencies based on data analyses and circumstances. The ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, both orally and in writing, is also required.
