Airline carrier U.S. Airways now has 10 percent fewer employees than four years ago and 6 percent fewer workers than they did a year ago.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics, U.S. carriers had about 394,000 workers in October, down from 418,000 in October 2007 and 439,000 in October 2004.
In response to high energy costs earlier this year and low consumer travel demands in the face of a recession, airlines have continually cut flights, operations, and jobs.
Tempe, Arizona-based US Airways Group Inc. had 5 percent fewer workers this October compared to 2007, according to BTS. The federal agency said US Airways has 31,200 workers, down from 32,900 a year ago.
