Van Nuys-based Superior Industries will close its Pittsburg, Kansas, plant December 19. As one of the largest private employers in the region, it is expected to cut around 600 jobs.
The company, which supplies aluminum wheels to major US and overseas automakers, has also canceled 90 vacant positions and will lay off another 65 workers in other areas.
In total the job cuts will reduce the company’s workforce by nearly 29%. The changes come as the company sees consumer trends of purchasing more fuel-efficient cars and fewer large vehicles.
