Delivery Driver Jobs

A delivery driver drives vehicles with capacities of under three tons in order to transport materials to and from specified destinations such as railroad stations, plants, residences, and offices, or within industrial yards. A driver inspects and maintains vehicle supplies and equipment such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes in order to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition. Drivers load and unload trucks, vans, or automobiles, obey traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures. Drivers read maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions. A delivery driver verifies the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers and maintains records such as vehicle logs, cargo logs, and billing statements in accordance with regulations. A delivery driver is responsible for performing emergency repairs such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, and spark plugs.
A delivery driver should have a high school education and a driver's license. A strong candidate should have two or more years of experience as a delivery driver. A delivery driver should have good eyesight and hearing and be able to lift heavy objects. A delivery driver must be able to pass written examinations and driving tests, and should have a good driving record.
