Transportation Inspector Jobs

A transportation inspector provides technical expertise, advanced training, and project leadership in the enforcement of marine safety, vessel inspections, pollution prevention, vessel manning, regulations, treaties, and international conventions. A transportation inspector conducts technical compliance reviews of vessel plans, safety management, and operating systems. A transportation inspector verifies that the vessels being inspected have the proper documents and certificates on board. A transportation inspector inspects all required navigation, communication, alarm, lifesaving, firefighting, and pollution prevention systems for proper operation and compliance and also inspects the given vessel's hull to ensure its soundness and safety.
A bachelor's degree is typically required for a transportation inspector position. A transportation inspector should have knowledge of personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including the ability to adjust work operations to meet production requirements with available resources and with minimum sacrifices to the quantity and quality of work. A transportation inspector should also have knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. A transportation inspector should have the ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a medium-sized organization.
