Transportation Engineer Jobs

A transportation engineer monitors and manages projects, evaluates and recommends programs, and develops plans for engineering requirements. A transportation engineer plans, designs, constructs, and maintains airfield pavements and structures/facilities that provide shelter, support, and transportation systems. A transportation engineer performs planning and design work for substantial multiphase constructions, renovations, and improvement projects and regularly inspects/surveys facilities, utility systems, streets, and runways to identify deficiencies to be repaired in executing the infrastructure maintenance plan. A transportation engineer also provides layouts, designs, and specifications, and reviews architecture and engineering contracts to determine structural compatibility, maintainability, and functionality. A transportation engineer also performs detailed preconstruction site surveys.
A transportation engineer must have a bachelor's degree in transportation engineering. A transportation engineer should have the ability to read and comprehend complex transportation engineering literature and operating procedures. A transportation engineer should have the ability to write administrative and technical reports and standard operating procedures. A transportation engineer should be able to document computer program specifications. A transportation engineer should also be able to communicate at a highly technical level with other transportation engineers and superiors. At least five years of experience is preferred for transportation engineer candidates.
