Tow Truck Driver Jobs

A tow truck driver's job involves driving heavy vehicles. A tow truck driver makes repairs by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts and components. A tow truck driver assists heavy mobile equipment mechanics in disassembling, repairing, and assembling major systems, components, and operating mechanisms and adjusts and sets parts in accordance with specifications identified in manufacturers' manuals. A tow truck driver interprets wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides and applies manufacturers' repair manuals, technical specifications, schematics, engineering drawings, diagnostic codes, and environmental and safety manuals. A tow truck driver also maintains diesel, multi-fuel, and gasoline engines (both supercharged and turbocharged). A tow truck driver repairs a variety of heavy mobile machines which may have hydraulic, pneumatic, or electric systems or features not commonly found on automobiles and ordinary transport trucks and buses.
A tow truck driver job requires a valid driver's license and knowledge of heavy mobile equipment assembly, installation, and repair (this includes bulldozers, road graders, power shovels, mobile cranes, fire trucks, re-fuelers, and other specialty equipment). A tow truck driver also needs to have knowledge of technical practices in order to repair and overhaul major equipment systems such as diesel, multi-fuel, and gasoline engines; automatic and manual transmissions; multi-gear assemblies; and a variety of positioning systems. A tow truck driver likewise needs knowledge of standard safety practices and procedures.
