Want to ski like an Olympian? Or at least try the same slopes? You could head to Whistler Resort, two hours north of Vancouver, British Columbia, host of the Alpine and Nordic events during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The freestyle and snowboarding events will take place at Cypress Mountain, just 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Upgrades are already complete, so visitors can enjoy the new facilities two years before the games.

British Columbia is home to more than 35 downhill resorts, 12 of which are considered world-class, and most are equipped with high-speed chairlifts serving vertical rises from 1,300 feet to 5,250 feet. Several of these resorts are already welcoming international ski teams for their pre-Olympic training.

In B.C.'s Okanagan region, for example, Apex Mountain Resort is the main training ground for the Canadian aerial team, and has also drawn freestyle ski teams from Japan, Australia and the United States. Sun Peaks Resort, near Kamloops, has welcomed the Austrian ski team for three consecutive years of pre-Olympic training, and Silver Star Mountain Resort is set to host Nordic teams between now and 2010. All of these resorts will welcome skiers and boarders - of any caliber - before, after and, in most cases, even during the Olympics.

Families Get a Break This Spring

For the second year in a row, the Sheraton Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort is not accepting spring break reservations from students and groups under the age of 21. The restriction covers bookings from now until March 31.
